Louisiana Lagniappe!! This word is still well known and often used in the Louisiana Gulf Coast.  Lagniappe means a small gift given to a customer by a merchant at time of purchase.
Although this is an old custom, it is still widely practiced today in Louisiana. Street vendors, especially hot sauce, candle, vegetable vendors are expected to throw in something extra with a purchase.
